Alan Synman awarded Medal of the Order of Australia

February 2017

One of the founding directors of SJB, Alan Synman, was recently awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community and to architecture in the 2017 Australia Day Honours list.

SJB would like to congratulate Alan on this significant achievement and acknowledge his successful career spanning 45 years in the architectural profession.  His legacy is acknowledged and greatly appreciated by the extended SJB family as it continues to grow, contribute to and influence the built environment.

Alan commented on his award saying, “Upon retiring as a Director of SJB in 2005, it was always my intention to give back to the profession.  Architecture has been kind to me and has provided me with close to 50 years of ongoing challenges, changes and everlasting friendships, from the youngest site apprentice to clients from every walk of life.”

“It has been a privilege to be involved in and service our great profession and I continue to be passionate about the positive impact and influence that architects can have, not only on the built environment but also in providing leadership to the broader community.”
