The founding directors of SJB Planning NSW have recently been appointed by the NSW Minister for Planning and Public Space, Rob Stokes, to senior public planning roles in NSW.
Alison McCabe has been appointed as the new Chair of the Hunter and Central Coast Regional Planning Panel, having previously been a member of the Southern Regional Planning Panel.
Stuart McDonald has been appointed as a permanent member of Sydney South Planning Panel, which includes the large metropolitan local government areas of Sutherland, Canterbury Bankstown and Georges River. Stuart will also continue to sit on all other Sydney and regional planning panels as required, as he has done for several years.
There are five Sydney Planning Panels and four Regional Planning Panels across NSW. Each panel is an independent body that is not subject to the direction of the Minister of Planning and Public Spaces.
The Planning Panels
- determine regionally significant development applications (DAs), certain other DAs and modification applications
- act as the Planning Proposal Authority (PPA) when directed undertake rezoning reviews
- provide advice to the Minister on other planning and development matters when requested
- determine site compatibility certificates under the State Environmental Planning Policy (Housing for Seniors or People with a Disability) 2004.
While Alison and Stuart have been in similar roles in the past, having been appointed by a succession of Planning Ministers, the new appointments have elevated each of them to more significant roles for the next 3 years.
Alison and Stuart will continue to balance their new roles with their active and hands-on assistance with the running of the successful SJB Planning consultancy practice. The SJB Planning team of experienced planners offers a wide range of urban and regional planning services to an extensive government and private client base.
